Pinefilm Entertainment is an all rights film distributor in Australia and New Zealand, established in 1999, working across finance, acquisitions, sales, distribution and marketing. It has a substantial library of art house, independent and foreign language films, documentaries, special interest, sports, mainstream theatrical and direct-to-video/DVD/TV films. Pinefilm Entertainment has been incorporated within The Merkin Group and is no longer a separate entity.

We have produced, co- produced, financed, co- financed, acquired and distributed over 400 films across all rights, globally, as a physical and as a virtual producer. We have experience and relationships including agencies, bankers, insurers, completion bond providers, governments, producers, line producers, studios, mini studios, independent distributors, collection houses and sales agents.

We have been attending Cannes and AFM since 1998 and in conjunction with our  partners The Merkin Group and Pinefilm maintain our own in house counsel in Hollywood who was previously head of business and legal affairs with a major studio. We tend to concentrate on the acquisition of tentpole films (being made by other parties) for various global territories and  this is a low risk mitigation model. US only blockbuster type films with a contracted domestic wide, superwide or saturation release with a dynamic typically of not less 2000 screens via a studio or mini studio , a large (USD 30 MiL PandA spend upwards ) in the US. This is a very specific model and we do not vary from these dynamics.

Secondly we seek production positions in USD 5 to 10MiL range in projects that have been presold / that we can presell domestic and foreign and bank that paper in addition to taxation and/ or location incentives. However we tend to want to produce, co produce, executive produce and line produce as opposed to investing in someone else’s project. Specific talent and other key elements are critical in these genre driven projects. Again we rarely deviate from these dynamics.
