Cooroy dials into the Global Economy
THE high-speed, low-cost broadband facility in Cooroy is well on track for its completion date of September, as part of a suite of exciting initiatives in the area.
“If you look around now you’ll see contracting company Gopher Directional Drilling Services laying fibre optic cable in Cooroy, and the data centre under construction in front of the Butter Factory,†said Division 12 Cr Lew Brennan.
“After two years in the planning, the works are now visible and it’s a really exciting stage in the project. This is going to deliver an enormous benefit to the region.â€
The project comprises three elements – connection to the fibre optic cable running along the Queensland Rail line, and laying of cable through Cooroy; high speed-business grade WiMAX wireless throughout Cooroy and the northern area of the region, provided by Allegro Networks; and construction of the data centre by Council, to be operated by Mach Technology. The data centre will be supported by multiple redundancy levels for electricity and network connectivity and advanced fire detection and suppression systems to ensure business can host their server applications locally and stay online 24/7.
“The promise of faster broadband is now here on the Sunshine Coast,†said Allegro Managing Director David Waldie. “We are pleased to be able to bring the Sunshine Coast a truly world leading network and service offering. Many businesses have signed up already. They will be the first to enjoy faster speeds and better service.
“The regulatory licenses are the last piece of the puzzle. We have switched on the first of 10 new WiMAX base stations, connecting Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast. We will progressively switch on the rest of the network over coming weeks, bringing speeds up to 40bps to businesses across the Sunshine Coast.â€
The technology will also support other progressive changes taking place in the area and it’s no surprise that the Business Sunshine Coast Networking Event, scheduled for 29 July, is alos to be held in, you guessed it, Cooroy.
