New fibre optic cable network - construction starts
The next step towards the Noosa Clever Networks Project  has taken place over the last two weeks. Outside the Merkin Group Offices and in the business area of Cooroy the fibre optic cables have been laid. This will enable Cooroy and Noosa to receive high speed transmission of data on low-cost broadband which is critical to the ongoing growth and productivity of local businesses including The Merkin Group.
The new Data Centre is going to be located at the Old Butter Factory. It will be a purpose built facility that houses high performance servers and core network devices that allow connectivity of up to 10Gbps (Gigabits per second). This kind of technology is usually only available to large businesses with significant communication technology budgets.
The Merkin Group will be one of the first corporate companies in the hinterland area to utilize the Data Centre. This will increase our ability to service our national clients and also increase employment opportunities in Cooroy.
Cooroy was an obvious choice due to it’s proximity to the multiple fibre optic trunks to Brisbane, and beyond, via the railway line. This site will ultimately attract knowledge based industries such as digital arts, financial services, architecture, graphic design and information technology to the area.
