Agribusiness

Merkin Agribusiness

Agribusiness is the term given to industries dealing with agricultural production and services. It includes all activities involved in the production, processing and distribution of food and fibre products. In a world of increasing globalisation, people with agribusiness skills are in high demand. Given Australia’s strong reliance on agricultural exports, a solid future exists for soundly trained agribusiness managers and administrators as well as those exposed to the production of clean green soft commodities such as grains and meat.

The agribusiness sector is a dynamic business growth area where opportunities abound for individuals and companies to grow and realise new business opportunities. Agribusiness, done well, is highly profitable and outperforms many other sectors in the economy, significantly sometimes at less risk and less volatility which is interesting considering the vagaries of nature.

Since 1995 Merkin Pastoral has developed and operated Noosa Hinterland properties “Merkin Park” “Whyamba Station”, ”Beauty Falls”, ”Highfield ” and “Garryowen Park” and owned and operated Queensland icon pastoral properties such as “Eskdale West Station”, “Eskdale South” and “Avonmore” in the Brisbane Valley and “The Glen”, ” Fallowfield”, ” Sugarloaf “, and “Liscard” in the Pilton Valley.

Until January 2010 The Rothsey Family wholly owned the Farming Partnership of Merkin Pastoral and Land and partner with key management, genetic providers and other suppliers to deliver environmentally clean beef. Merkin Pastoral and Land only farm land owned and controlled by The Merkin Group.

Family and small business are integral to local communities, and both the Australian and global economies however in the unfortunate event of a family breakdown this can cause some confusion in a business environment with staff, advisors, suppliers, creditors, customers and the like.

We regret to advise our business associates that owing to the separation of Sean and Lee Rothsey the Farming Partnership of S and L Rothsey trading as Merkin Pastoral and Land and Merkin Park Stud was effectively dissolved on 31 March 2010 with Sean Rothsey retiring from the Partnership and leaving Lee with a business now known as Lee Rothsey . Effective 31 March 2010 all suppliers, creditors and customers of that entity should deal only with Lee Rothsey , PO Box 366 Pomona Q 4568 , Tel 07 5485 2670 or 0417 710 410 , leerothsey56@hotmail.com and should note that niether Sean Rothsey or The Merkin Group have any involvement in , or will recognise any commitment from that buiness henceforth.

We wish Lee Rothsey every success.

Lee Rothsey holds no authority over any trading or investment vehicle of The Merkin Group . Please refer to our Head Office should any confusion arise.

Lee Rothsey was and is separate to our private and public assets other than this one farming partnership and has no role or ownership or active or passive role in any trading or investment vehicle of The Merkin Group and we expect no disruption to our businesses during the finalization of the dissolution of this Partnership . Sean and Lee Rothsey have been separated for some time and it was hoped that notwithstanding the marital breakdown that there would be no change to our farming activities. Unfortunately this has not been the case however we can advise that there is no other change to our private ownership and our ethics, commitments and principles remain unchanged .

Merkin Pastoral also had significant forest assets in the Tiwi Islands (north of Darwin) where the managers had a strong commitment to training and providing employment and opportunities to the indigenous communities as well as maintaining their lifestyle and culture. Significant Federal aid and infrastructure has been obtained from the Commonwealth as well as Greening Australia provenancing and providing seedlings for new plantations - another source of valuable training employment and also funding for Greening Australia. The forests had a strong empathy with the existing bio diversity with attention paid to maintaining wildlife corridors and the like. With the Managers Great Southern Ltd going into Receivership on 15 June 2009 these assets have now been written off the books of the Farm Partnership as a complete loss.

The Merkin Group and MDS Financial have been engaged as corporate advisors to a major Central Queensland cattle family with extensive interests in Brahman genetics and organically certified cattle stations and farming properties.
